Site Description
The Oueme mesoscale site (Benin) is part of the AMMA-CATCH observation network. Its characteristics are as follows :a 14000 km² basin in sudanian climate on a crystaline basement. The studies focus on the hydrological cycle, the water budget and the hydrological processes.

Geology
Crystaline basement : the prevailing lithology is Precambrian migmatite,
which has weathered to clayey saprolith.
Vegetation
Vegetation is a patchwork of woodland, shrubland, crops (manioc, yam, maize, cotton and cashew nut are the most common crops) and herbaceous fallow.
Soils
The dominant soils in the catchment are "sols ferrugineux tropicaux lessivés" according to the French soil classification (Faure and Volkoff, Catena, 1998) and "Lixisols" according the World Reference Base (IUSS Working Group WRB, 2006).
Hydrology
The area of investigation is characterized by 1100 mm precipitation with one rainy season from May to October which usually results in stream flow from August to November.
